Discover What You Can Do With Your Slide, Negative, Photo Scans

Here's four great ideas on what you can do with your family digital scans...

Dear Friend,

So you've converted your originals into digital, or you're thinking about it.

Of course, you want to preserve your family's images into high-quality digital photos.

But, then what?

Well, here's four things I personally did with my own parent's scans.

1. Make A Back-Up Of Your Digital Image Scans

Backup your slide, negative, photo scans onto your computer.

When you get your DVD disc of your scans, the first thing you should do is BACK-UP your digital images.

Simply, place the DVD in your computer's disc drive and copy the images onto the hard-drive.

Name these scans "Family Scans - Original" -- and NEVER delete them, move them, or change them.

Then, make another copy, and call it "Family Scans - Copy". This copy is what you'll be using. Keep reading, and I'll show you what you can do with this copy of your scans.

2. Surprise Your Mom And Dad With A Slide Show On Your TV

scan your parents slides, negatives, photos

What I did is, I never told my parents I scanned their photos. And after dinner, I had them sit in front of their TV, and I put the disc in the DVD player.

We sat there for hours, while my Mom and Dad enjoyed watching and talking about their old memories.

Since your slide, negative, or photo scans are in JPEG format, you can simply put the DVD of your scans in your DVD player. Just make sure your DVD player says it's "JPEG Compatible".

Most DVD players will display JPEG images from a DVD.

Another option is, remember the COPY you made of your scans? Well, some HDTVs have a USB thumb-drive port. Copy your scans on a USB drive, and simply plug it in to your HDTV.

Check the side panel of your HDTV, and you should find the USB port.

3. Give Copies Of Your Scans To Your Family -- No Matter Where They Live

At ScanCanada.ca, all your scans will be uploaded to a secure server. You'll receive a link so you can view or download all of your scans.

And please go-head and share this link with your family and friends. They'll be able to download the scans, no matter where they are or live.

This link will be live for 12 months -- to give time for all your family a chance to download the images.

4. Create A DVD Slide Show With Commentary, Music, And Effects

If you want to make something more personal than just put your images on your TV, why not create a custom slide show. Add your own captons, music, and effects.

I use Windows Movie Maker to create my slide shows.

Personally Scanned And Edited: Our Focus Is Quality Not Speed

I understand that my team and I are dealing with your family's ONLY copy of slides, negatives, and photos. These are people's real memories, not just "photos".

This is why every effort is taken to ensure we treat your originals as if they were our own.

Your originals will be scanned in the order they arrived, and put back in the same fashion.

Lint-free gloves are used to handle your originals -- to make sure none of our finger prints end up on them.

Every slide, negative, and photo is cleaned using compressed air. This step helps remove most of the dust with little handling time.

Our scanning method is a bit different. Instead of using Digital ICE or other scan enhancement features that came with the scanner, we edit your scans in Photoshop.

I'm not saying it's better this way. It's just how we do it. I find that I can't rely on a machine to get you quality scans. The only way to ensure you get the highest-quality scans, is to personally edit them, by "hand", in Photoshop.
